Alligator Gorge

Some great exploration in Mount Remarkable visiting Alligator Gorge for a picnic, then up via the uninspiring town of Quorn (which reminded Jack of a frontier town in Mexico) through Hawker and into Wilpena Pound.

Here we are on an early morning walk down in Alligator Gorge which we ventured into on an empty tank of petrol, and prayed that the empty tank would get us back into the nearest small town of Wilson 14km away.  Coasting down a gravel road to save petrol we just made it.

Day 3: Melrose

We headed off on the A1 highway to Port Wakefield where we thought we would be on the coast.  However, this “port” is not functional and is a narrow inlet with mangroves, difficult to see any sea, and suitable for recreational fishing if you row out through the mangroves.

We headed inland and up through Laura to Melrose and Mount Remarkable National Park.  We stayed in the unique accommodation called “the Red Truck” out the back of one of the 2 hotels in Melrose. Two crashed up red trucks made up our accommodation; the neighbouring Green Truck was a bit more upmarket and maybe even would work!   The Fat Tyre Festival was on that weekend and lots of mountain bike cyclists were all over the town.

Day 1 and 2: Adelaide

Jack started his 2 day “colloquium” at UniSA and was surprised that the Accounting Faculty could put on such an interesting and creative 2 days.

Meanwhile Mo played tourist in Adelaide, the city of churches, and also teamed up with the SA Astronomical Society to view the Transit of Venus as well as hop on a tram to Glenelg.  The second day took me by ferry to the Adelaide Zoo which is in the heart of Adelaide and home to 2 giant pandas you just wanted to cuddle.

We caught up together for lunch and saw Prometheus on the last night.

Hello friends and family!

This is Mo’s very first post.  John (Jack) has been blogging on his professional website www.walkerwilson.com.au but Maureen (Mo) was motivated to get with the groove and start a blog for our holiday to the Adelaide Hills and the Flinders Ranges.

We should see sights such as this …
